Author Biography
Gabriel Solis is a professor of music and divisional dean of the arts at the University of Washington. He is the author of studies on jazz, popular music, and global music history with a particular focus on Indigenous musical histories in Australia and Papua New Guinea. His work has appeared in journals in ethnomusicology, music history, sociology, and music information retrieval, and he has published books with the University of California Press, University of Illinois Press, and Oxford University Press. He is the author of the forthcoming book, Singing the Black Pacific, with Oxford University Press, anticipated for publication in 2025.
